IIT Madras presents a workshop on Direction and Screenwriting


Imaging Cinema is back again with a treat for aspiring film-makers and film enthusiasts. The workshop on ‘Emerging Trends in Cinema’ mentored by stalwarts like Dibakar Banerjee, R. Balki and  Santosh Sivan was a big success. Following your aspirations, needs and enthusiasm we are back with yet another workshop. This 15 days workshop scheduled to happen in IIT Madras from the 10th to the 25th of June, 2012 is a comprehensive course on Screenwriting and Direction. Get ready to celebrate the wonders of cinema from Christopher Nolan’s complicated and mind boggling plots to Satyajit Ray’s visual illustrations and Jean luc Godard’s ‘all in head’ screenplays.

Did you know one page of screenplay amounts to approximately one minute on the screen? Do you know who decides a cut; director, screenwriter or an editor? Ever wondered how detailed your screenplay must be?  Is something stopping you to write or execute your own story? No worries, we are here to get you in touch with the avant garde writers and directors. A comprehensive classroom-routine on Screenwriting and Film Direction with some of the biggest names in the Indian Film Industry, the Network and reputed Institutes like the Film and Television Institute of India and Whistling Woods. So don’t be surprised to see Anuraag Kashyap speaking about  DEV D or Prakash Jha talking about expression of politics and power in Raajneeti.

    And when i started to get acquainted with screenplays, Memento was the 1st one which i read. I am great fan of Nolan and I must have read screenplay of Memento nearly 10-15 times.

  3. I need to look into tamil cinema also now…I am looking forward for Thiagarajan Kumararaja(Aaranyakaandam is said to be the first neo noir cinema in tamil…so i would really like to know more about it)…then Myshkin(Anjathe)…Ameer(Pauthiveeran)….these are the three i really want to study..

Because its a screenwriting workshop, i would like to mention this man’s name who according to me is even more skilled than those bollywood big guns… Having received a National Award in only his 2nd movie.. VETRIMARAN is my choice for the day.. Aadukalam’s casting and screenplay, jus mindblowing!! he might be busy with his VADA CHENNAI flick, yet wanted to mention him…

    My suggestion for screen play writers – Dir Bagyaraj – a celebrated screen play writer in the country for Indian way of film making, Dir Parthiban, Danny Boyle may be…, ,Dir Tarsem, Dir Manoj N Shyamalan, Mani Sir, Dir Sanjay leela bhansali, Dir Raj Kumar Hirani, Dir Rohit shetty, Dir Bandi saroj kumar, Dir K Viswanath, looking out for mix of different ages and multiple genres and varied styles of film making….!!!!

  7. Good Venture for those not in the industry. Particularly for people in the education sector where Principal”s like me will make future generations to get into myriad professions and make them be self sustained in approach.
    Hope we too find it to the teams and benefit out of it.

A Film is a Petrified Fountain of Thought and my passion or enthu towards the film making is enormous..Though i wrote the screenplays for some of short films which i have been directed,am not well satisfied with that and want to improve my skills in screenplay writing and direction..Its being a great opportunity to me and my kind of film lovers to improve their skills and enhance their knowledge..
